Wedding Grand Entrance Music
Your first moment as a married couple. Tips and song ideas for a grand entrance that sets the tone for the whole reception.
The grand entrance is your first moment as a married couple in the reception room — announced by name, walking in together to a song that reflects your personalities. For many guests, it sets the tone for the entire evening. Get it right and the room will erupt.
Unlike the processional, the grand entrance calls for something upbeat, well-known, and ideally a little unexpected. This is the moment for personality — the song that makes your guests think "yes, that's completely them."
8 Tips for the Perfect Grand Entrance
- Choose something recognisable. Guests should know the song within the first few seconds — recognition creates instant energy and participation.
- Go for the first 30–60 seconds. You only use a small portion of the song before transitioning to dinner or other reception events, so make sure the opening has impact immediately.
- Consider announcing the full bridal party. Bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls and ring bearer can all be announced individually — one song for the party, a second more personal song for the couple themselves.
- Add production. Ask your DJ or venue about a smoke machine, confetti cannon, or bubble machine. The right special effect combined with the right song creates a genuinely theatrical moment.
- Don't be afraid to be funny. An unexpected, humorous entrance song — done well — is one of the most memorable things a couple can do. The room will talk about it all night.
- Coordinate with your MC. Your MC should build anticipation before the entrance — the longer the buildup, the bigger the payoff when the music drops.
- Practice it once. Walk through the entrance at the rehearsal, or at least in the corridor before you go in. Knowing exactly when to start walking and how to arrive at your positions makes all the difference.
- Enjoy it. The grand entrance is one of the few moments in the entire wedding where the only job is to have fun. Let go and enjoy it.
