Wedding Processional Music

The walk down the aisle. Classical, instrumental and contemporary song lists to help you choose the perfect processional for your wedding ceremony.

Your processional is the most anticipated musical moment of the ceremony. When the doors open and the music starts, every head turns. This is the song that will be forever linked to the image of you walking toward the person you're about to marry — choose it with that in mind.

Some weddings use one processional song for the entire bridal party; others use a separate, more emotional song specifically for the bride's entrance. Both work beautifully — the choice depends on how much musical variety you want in the ceremony and the size of your wedding party.

Choosing Your Processional Style

There are three distinct processional styles to choose from, each creating a very different atmosphere:

Practical Tips for Your Processional

  1. Walk to the song before the wedding. Practise walking slowly to your chosen processional at home. Count your steps to the beat. This tells you whether the timing works and how fast or slow you need to walk.
  2. Consider two songs. Use one song for the bridal party entrance and a separate, more emotional song for the bride's entrance. The pause between the two builds incredible anticipation.
  3. Check with your venue. Religious venues often have restrictions on what music may be played during the ceremony. Confirm this before falling in love with a specific song.
  4. Live vs recorded. A live musician can adjust tempo in real time to match your pace. Recorded music offers more song choice and perfect consistency — pair it with a sound engineer who can watch and adjust.
  5. Don't overthink it. The processional lasts 2–5 minutes. Choose a song you both love that fits the feeling of the moment, and trust that it will be perfect.
